Ubuntu in NYC: Kubernetes in minutes and enterprise support on AWS

On August 14th, at the Javits Convention Center in midtown Manhattan, Canonical will be participating in the AWS Summit. Ubuntu has long been popular with users of AWS due to its stability, regular cadence of releases, and scale-out-friendly usage model. Canonical optimizes, builds, and regularly publishes the latest Ubuntu images to the EC2 Quickstart and AWS Marketplace, which ensures the best Ubuntu experience for developers using AWS’s cloud services. And in April, we even launched an AWS-tuned kernel, which provides up to 30% faster boot speeds, on a 15% smaller kernel package, as well as many other features.

To complement great performance with enhanced uptime and security, last year Canonical launched its Ubuntu Advantage support package as two listings (Standard and Advanced tiers) on the AWS Marketplace SaaS program. On top of access to enterprise SLAs as well as key features and tools, buying Ubuntu Advantage through AWS Marketplace ensures hourly pricing rates based on the quantity of your actual Ubuntu usage on AWS, and centralized billing through your existing AWS Marketplace account.

And this month, we are delighted to announce that we will be adding an Ubuntu Advantage – Essential tier, which is focused on access to features and tooling, as a listing to AWS Marketplace. At $0.009 per instance hour, this tier will include:

  • Access to the self-service customer care portal and Canonical’s knowledge base
  • Landscape Management & Monitoring (SaaS Edition)
  • Canonical Livepatch Service: apply critical kernel patches without rebooting (on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS images using the generic Linux 4.4 kernel)
  • Ubuntu Legal and IP Assurance program
  • Ubuntu 12.04 Extended Security Maintenance (ESM)

It gets better. At the booth, we will be doing live demos of getting Canonical’s open-source, pure upstream distribution of Kubernetes deployed in minutes on AWS, as well as complex architectures around services like Hadoop and Tensorflow.

Be sure to visit booth 231 at the AWS New York Summit on August 14th!
